Welcome to Woodmice!
All At Sea
Woodmice Class were very excited to receive a suitcase containing a selection of artefacts and a letter from the Sea City Museum asking them to create a Titanic museum to tell the people of Ringwood about this historical event. We researched information and wrote facts about how the Titanic was built, a diary entry and a recount of a passengers survival. During Art we drew the Titanic using a range of media and even using a drawing program on the computer. During the IC we were very lucky to have a visit from the SeaCity museum where we experienced hands on activities and learnt even more about the disaster, deciding who we would take with us in a lifeboat, what different artefacts were, seeing if we could recognise smells from the ship and sorting items from first, second, and third class passengers. After a visit from Captain Dixon the children learnt about how ship safety has changed since The Titanic disaster. In Geography we traced the route taken by the Titanic and identified the Oceans and continents and their position in the world. For home learning the children made a model of the Titanic to show in our museum. Finally we put everything together to create our museum and invited the parents to join us. Author and illustrator Simon Chadwick visited Woodmice class to read stories and teach us how to draw a woodmouse. We really enjoyed Simon’s visit and were amazed by how well our drawings turned out.
Woodmice Class invited our parents into the classroom for a ‘Let’s Learn’ workshop. The children shared all the learning they had done in their IC about our christian ethos values and learning values. The children loved putting their parents to work! Thank you to all the parents who came and joined in.
